 5.評価と考察
 5.2 検索アプリケーションにおける評価
 で報告されている、Smith-Waterman検索結果がスゴイ:
 元になったアルゴリズムは最近発表されたばかりの Smith-Watermanの SIMDベクトル化
  "Parallel Processing in Biological Sequence Comparison using General Purpose Processors",
   Friman Sanchez, et al., Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya,
   2005 IEEE International Symposium on Workload Characterization (IISWC-2005), 2005.
   こちらの報告では、既存のデータパラレル化による Smith-Waterman検索手法に比べて
   実行時間で 30%減少に成功したというもの (PowerPC970 Altivecで実装)。
 各 SPEでこのベクトル化した Smith-Waterman検索を行い PPEでデータフローを調整したところ
 IA32 with SSE2に対して 8SPE + PPEは約 6倍の処理速度が得られたとのこと。
 IA32の詳細が記されていないのが??だけど、PPE w VMXに対しては約 5倍向上。
 もっと驚いたのが、IA32で SSE2を使用した場合は処理速度が 5倍も向上していること(詳細は??)。
  (Sanchez氏らの報告はもっと大々的に取り上げられても良いはずでは。Sanchez氏らの研究は、
   IBMや Barcelona Supercomputer Centerの協力でなされたそうです)
日本アイ・ビー・エムの報告では、データベースやクエリーの詳細が触れられていないのが残念。
SPEへのデータ分割手法等々とっても興味津々。
